Elkridge is a small, unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland. Located between Columbia and Baltimore, this town offers direct access to major MARC stations and BWI Airport. Elkridge is roughly bounded by Montgomery Road to the north, Route 108 to the west, the railroad tracks and Meadowridge Memorial Park to the south and Patapsco River to the east. Columbia borders the area to the west, Catonsville to the north, Halethorpe and Patapsco to the east, and Hanover and later Dorsey border the south. Downtown Baltimore is also a quick drive away.
Elkridge is the oldest settlement in Howard County. The area had a rich history of industries, including pig-iron forging, basket weaving, paper and cotton. The Thomas Viaduct, located over Levering Avenue at the entrance to the Patapsco Valley State Park and spanning towards Relay, is the oldest stone curved bridge in the world. The area is also home to other major historical sites like the Marshalee Plantation and the Rosa Bonheur Memorial Park, one of the first pet cemeteries in the world.

Things to Do in Elkridge
Also known as Troy Hill Farm, Troy Park is an historic slave plantation and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site is also associated with the Dorsey family of Howard County, who also built Dorsey Hall. The park has implemented revenue-generating baseball fields and soccer fields, while also providing several other athletic fields, a playground and plenty of trails.
To the west of Troy sits Meadowridge Memorial Park, and north of them is The Timbers at Troy. This public, tree-lined golf course provides tee boxes, fairways and very well-maintained greens. This course also features league tournaments, practice facilities and a clubhouse that includes a pro shop and the Shady Oaks Grille.
Outside the Elkridge area is the Patapsco Valley State Park. Extending 32 miles along the Patapsco River, this park encompasses multiple developed recreational areas on over 14,000 acres of land. Officially celebrated as Maryland’s first state park, its recreational opportunities include hiking, fishing, camping, canoeing, horseback riding and mountain biking. The area is also home to many swinging bridges, Cascade Falls, Thomas Viaduct and other historical sites.
Traveling Around Elkridge
The Elkridge area has access to the Howard Transit Purple bus line that travels in from Laurel and ends at Elkridge Corners Shopping Center. MTA also has commuter bus services throughout the area, while the Dorsey MARC station is just south of the community. The St. Denis MARC station is also nearby, and is located beyond the Thomas Viaduct. I-95 and Route 1 bisect the area and are viable routes to nearby Baltimore and Laurel. Elkridge is also a short drive to BWI Airport, via I-195.
